If you read or hear negative information on cannabis, consider the source of information. Everyone in the U.S. has been bombarded with propaganda concerning this plant for almost a century.
The slang name “pot” became popular in the 1930’s. It was derived from the Spanish word, potiguaya. It means leaves from the marijuana plant. Mexicans would soak cannabis leaves in brandy for a drink known as potación de guaya.
Feds slant on the name “pot” was a way to use descriptive semantics to say this “horrible” drug makes your life go to pot. The government groups cannabis in the same category as heroin, crack, LSD, etc.
If you are constantly told terrible things about the use of this plant, the lies will eventually be converted to what you believe is the truth: that pot is a terrible drug that will ruin your life and those around you.
Search on Google for the movie “Reefer Madness.” You can watch it on YouTube. This is an old movie used by the federal government as everything evil about the use of marijuana. It depicted horrible crimes as being caused by using marijuana. Then finally the smoker would be driven crazy by this dangerous drug. Originally shown in 1936 and still being viewed in a colorized version today. It is a fictional comedy based on bogus information about the plant.
What really blows Renovating Your Mind away is the current media articles detailing what cannabis does to the minds of young people. How using this plant will lead to altered brain physiology when a child using marijuana matures into an adult.
Just like alcohol, cannabis is not for use in children and adolescents. So why make that a point to justify its use for an adult. Many natural products, used chronically, may damage systems in an immature young body. Those substances could be caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, etc.
Cannabis becomes legally available for recreational use starting Jan. ’14 in Colorado and Washington. Another option added to the legal human list of things making us feel good. It can be used to reduce anxiety, stress and depression. Self-treating yourself for these medical problems is the very reason why the majority of the American public uses alcohol.
One of the big problems with the recreational legalization of marijuana in both CO and WA is the tax rates. The amount of money that the state government levies on cannabis may allow illegal sales to flourish. The maximum tax for alcohol is 4% in CO. Recreational marijuana tax is 25%. Illegal sales on the street is tax-free.
Renovating Your Mind sees this from two different perspectives. First, state government has allowed this high tax with the understanding it may cost quite a bit to police and audit legal recreational marijuana stores. Second, that government is just being too greedy for revenue. This will only promote more illegal street sales of cannabis.Time will tell if government has overestimated this tax.
Marijuana doesn’t just come in the form of a joint anymore. Those that object to smoking may instead vaporize. A process that turns cannabis into a vapor without igniting the plant. This is similar to heating a herb like basil. What comes off is the volatile essential oils that contains all the wonderful basil odors. You don’t get any of the offensive burning of other materials like the rolling paper.
There is also the edible category. These are foods and drinks infused with marijuana components. Another option is concentrated liquids that can be used in an e-cigarette device having no odors. In addition, there are many other forms of cannabis available for use.
Some rules for recreational marijuana are:
- For use only in adults 21 years and older
- No use when driving or operating dangerous machinery
- Limitations on where smoking is allowed.
- Only specific quantity allowed for purchase, lesser quantity for non-residents
