High HCY Levels High Inflammation
Is supplemental folic acid protective against cardiovascular disease (heart attack and stroke)? Researchers found that abnormally high homocysteine levels were correlated with high rates of cardiovascular disease. When patients were dosed with folic acid, it lowered these levels. The thinking was that supplemental folic acid would then decrease the risk of heart disease. According to study results, that thinking was incorrect. Low folic acid levels are at best an indicator rather than a solution to the problem.
These B vitamins are always working together. Seems like B6, B9 and B12 are best of buddies in many human systems. The other B brothers play a role but sometimes behind the scenes.

Deteriorating Vision In Macular Degeneration
There are also studies showing the benefits of supplementing with folic acid. In a 2009 study in the Arch. of Intern. Medicine, results showed a 35% reduction in macular degeneration (age-related eye disease) in women that were supplementing with B6 (pyridoxine), B9 (folic acid) and B12 (cyanocobalamin). About 20 years ago, a study at Harvard resulted in significantly lower amounts of colon cancer on women that supplemented with folic acid.

Folic acid also aids in the production of “nicer sperm” for lesser chances of abnormalities in the fetus. If the male is nutritionally sound, then the excited sperm does his part to positively contribute to a healthy fetus.
Needs To Be Anointed By The Liver For Full Functionality
When B9 gets into our systems, it must first be activated in our liver before it’s declared a full-fledged active vitamin by our bodily machinery. As it is, Vitamin B9 is one of the most difficult nutrients to absorb from foods. A full stomach inhibits the absorption of this nutrient. So folic acid must go up a steep hill to finally coast down into our cells to participate in all of its myriad of bodily functions.
Folic acid is essential in the production of red blood cells and preventing anemia.
Vitamin B12 Play Dough Egg
Link to my previous article on B12 follows:
Care must be exercised with a B vitamin deficiency because there is usually more one member that is lacking in the diet. A dangerous example would be an anemia that is caused by both a B12 and folic acid deficiency. If the problem is misdiagnosed and treated with only folic acid, all the symptoms will disappear. What still remains is the fact that you have masked a B12 deficiency by giving only folic acid. This situation will lead to irreversible nerve damage due to continued lack of B12.
Just One Letting Loose, Other Members Can’t Hold It Together
The eight B-Complex vitamins are so interdependent on each other that the weakest link (one single B vitamin deficiency) could take down the entire team.
Can supplemental folic acid cause cancer? No, but it could throw on more fuel if there is an undiagnosed cancer fire burning from within your body. Always check with a nutritionally oriented healthcare professional before dosing with any supplemental vitamin. Folic acid is necessary for cell division, maintenance and growth. Many cancer cells require higher amounts of essential nutrients and folic acid is one of these nutrients. Dose with folic acid and you may accelerate cancerous growth.
Notice How Structures Look About The Same
The prescription medication, methotrexate, works as a folic acid antagonist. Methotrexate sits in folate’s (folic acid) chair (receptor) and prevents it from working. An example, would be yours truly going to “your” (the readers’) place of work. I arrive before you and dominate your chair and cubicle. I don’t know your job, so I don’t know what the hell I am doing. I just sit there and look stupid and nothing gets done. That is exactly how methotrexate works as a medication. It stops the malignant process of allowing cell division and multiplication in the body by just sitting there and blocking out folic acid. Methotrexate is used for the treatment of many diseases including various forms of severe arthritis.

Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Pantothenic Acid, Pyridoxine, Biotin, Folic Acid, Cyanocolbalamin
To help you remember the B-Complex Family, I put together a little mnemonic action for all those dietician/nutritional students out there.
