There is a part of our brain that focuses on our survival by inducing a creamy feeling of ecstasy that permeates every part of our very being. Some of the major activities that target the brain’s hedonistic zone are kissing, sex or consuming fats with sugar.
All these feats of pleasure enable us to better preserve our gene pool. Kissing and sex could result in new offspring.
Loads of fats with sugar will produce body insulation. This excess storage increases the chance of survival during a famine.
As that delicious piece of sugary fatty food goes into our body and gets digested, secretions of a chemical called dopamine shoot out of the brain’s reward center.
Food companies have discovered this secret years ago. They know the exact amounts of fat and sugar to create a dopamine explosion in the body. It is called the “bliss factor.” This creates an addiction. Tolerance develops where you need more and more to get the same desired effect. Day by day, calories accumulate into pounds producing excess weight and ultimately obesity.
So these foods trigger “feel good” chemicals in the brain. This is exactly the same thing as opioids (oxycontin, oxycodone, hydrocodone, etc.) heroin and cocaine do to stimulate dopamine release. You develop an addiction requiring more and more to achieve the same euphoric effect.
Studies in rats utilizing high fat and sugar foods showed the addictive power of these foods. Rats were given a choice of bland food and meals loaded with grease/sweets. The rats always chose the latter. In this experiment, rats would risk possible mortality for fats and sugar. Scientists did this by shocking the animal. Rodents gave up eating the bland food in lieu of possible electrocution. The same didn’t hold true with the grease/sweets. The addictive nature of the junk food overwhelmed the priority of survival.
A similar situation happens in our bodies. One of the reasons we feel full is that a chemical called leptin gets released in the brain because it seems to know our fat storage limits. This helps prevent overeating. Unfortunately, a dessert will override the decision to stop pillaging the sweets. Anything with fat and sugar that stimulates our pleasure center (gives off dopamine) overrides leptin. This is how we grow fat and obese.
Ditch the desserts and substitute with incredible amounts of romantic safe sex. Burn off those calories. Go long for best effects! 🙂 Bonus after the “event” is a deep relaxing sleep. Zzzzz.
